How Do I Know If I Need Counselling?

EXPLORE

You don’t have to be in crisis to consider counselling.

Sometimes, you may simply notice that something has become harder to manage on your own.

When Might Counselling Help?

You might consider counselling if:

  • Your usual ways of coping no longer seem enough
  • Difficult feelings keep returning
  • Stress is affecting your sleep, work or relationships
  • You feel stuck despite trying to cope
  • Something from the past continues to affect you
  • You are facing a difficult change or decision

There is no single point when someone “needs” counselling.

Some people seek support during a particularly difficult period.
Others come because they want to understand themselves better or
work through something that has been troubling them for some time.

Do I Need to Know What to Talk About?

No.

You can begin with what is troubling you now. Your counsellor can help you explore what has been happening and what you would like to work towards.
